Cleaning and Care Cleaning Sterling Silver You may clean your sterling silver jewellery with a soft damp cloth with water and a very mild detergent if they become dirty. Never clean your jewellery with solutions that contain ammonia or harsh detergents, and don't put the jewellery in an ultrasonic cleaner. Caring for Pearls Keep pearls away from all heavy chemicals such as chlorine bleach, vinegar, ammonia, but also chemicals which may seem less harmful such as hairspray, perfume, and cosmetics, such as body lotion as these substances will damage the pearl surface. Make sure to put pearls on after you have finished spraying perfume or hairspray and putting on makeup. It is also important to remove pearls before exercising to keep them away from perspiration, as this can react with any of the above lotions/perfume/hairspray and damage the nacre and colour. Be very careful with substances as they will eat holes in the pearl nacre and damange the pearl or the pearl colour.
Storing Pearls Store your pearls in a soft bag made from a non-abrasive material to minimize scratching from other jewellery. You may wipe pearls with a soft damp cloth with water and a very mild detergent if they become dirty. Never clean your pearls with solutions that contain ammonia or harsh detergents, and don't put pearl jewellery in an ultrasonic cleaner. Your pearl necklaces should be restrung periodically so that you're sure the silk or nylon cord holding them is secure. |
